Traffic in Argentina

Those of you who have been driving in Argentina may have noticed things obout the driving there. I came across an article in a dutch news paper about the Argentinian driving.
The study which was mentioned concluded that Argentina has the most traffic deaths in the world per car owner. So next time you think "these guys drive like idiots" you know you're right!

Has anyone had experiences on the Argentinian roads which tribute to this study or that prove otherwise?

Yes, Chema, I have, both as a passenger in teh city, on teh highway and as a pedestrian. In the past, I had thought that in Italy the driving was reckless, but in Nuenos Aires........well, it took my breath away just how close all the vehicles were willing to drive next to each other.
On my second trip there, I was near Recoletta, on a main atree. THe crossing signals msut be a bit different than in the U.S., and although I tried to mimic what other pedestrians were doing in order to cross the stree, I foud myself all alone, on a busy street, in the middle of a crosswalk wiht cars (mostly taxis) whipping past me, with none of them having any intention of stopping or showing any mercy for me until the signal changed to make them stop. I truly felt I was going to end up in the hospital!
